When did you begin working at ROAR Logistics and what made you want to work there?

I began working at the ROAR Houston, Texas office in June of 2022. My cousin referred me here, as she knew I wanted a change of pace from my previous position. Also, after hearing there was a pool table in the common area I knew I had to apply! I was working for a shipping company when learning about the position at ROAR, and it sounded like the perfect opportunity to see the other side of the industry. The interview process was smooth, and I began working doing tracking and tracing for the OTR division. Each day there was something entirely unexpected to navigate through. I really enjoyed not knowing what the day would bring and being able to provide a solution through each challenge.

What is your job title and describe your position at ROAR Logistics.

In May of 2023, I made the transition from tracking to working in our Carrier Sales Division as a Carrier Procurement Representative. My daily responsibilities include using various tools to secure the correct equipment for our customers, creating and maintaining relationships with carriers, and working with our new dedicated team to ensure carriers are providing good communication and service. Everyone in our office has the common goal of providing our customers with great service. Although we may not communicate with customers daily in Carrier Sales, we continue to filter through carriers with this goal as our top priority.

Describe what it’s like working on a team at ROAR and how this has been beneficial to you.

When starting with ROAR last year, I knew little to nothing about the industry. Each day I had to learn from my mistakes and listen to advice from peers, but eventually over time, I learned my role well. Starting in March, I was assigned to train new associates on tracking while also preparing myself for my new role in Carrier Sales. Since my transition to Carrier Procurement Representative, I’ve acquired new negotiating skills and on the spot solutions. I plan to continue broadening my carrier contact list and keep a good relationship with those who I have already established.

Describe what it’s like working on a team at ROAR and how this has been beneficial to you.

I believe I have benefited from working in a team the most as all my experience came from on-the-job training. My team members each have a different rhythm, and I would say I’ve taken a piece from each of them. We work with each other to get the lowest rate possible while ensuring the service does not drop. Working as a team is both competitive and fun! Work hard and play hard is our motto!

What is the craziest challenge you’ve had to overcome on the job?

Our biggest challenge currently is the changing market. With customer pricing continuing to go down, capacity is harder to find. Having to tell a dedicated carrier that prices must go down can be a tough conversation to have, especially if they are providing great communication and service on the lane.
